Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD or ADD)

Policy for ADD/ADHD

ADD/ADHD is a specific diagnosis requiring an in-depth evaluation, usually by a psychologist or psychiatrist. All other causes for lack of focus (mood disorders, physical problems, learning disabilities) need to be eliminated. The LCC Health Clinic does not have staff with the expertise to perform this testing.

Health Clinic staff will not diagnose ADD/ADHD. Providers may meet with patients to discuss the diagnostic process, assist with evaluation and treatment for other disorders that might be impacting focus or concentration, and to provide referral information for a formal ADD/ADHD evaluation. The cost of outside evaluation will be the responsibility of the patient.

Health Clinic staff may choose to prescribe medication for patients who can provide supporting documentation satisfactory to the provider. A Controlled Medication Agreement will be kept on file for any patient receiving regular prescriptions for controlled medications.
