Music Ensembles

Chamber Choir

The Lane Chamber Choir is a select vocal ensemble that specializes in a cappella choral music from the Medieval period to the present. Collaborating with guest artists, touring, and special performance opportunities are part of the choir's experience each year. In 2016, the choir was invited to sing with the Grammy Award-winning vocal ensemble Room Full of Teeth, and, in 2018, the choir shared a concert with the renowned choral ensemble Cantus.

Symphonic Band

The Lane Symphonic Band provides a rich ensemble experience where students and community members may continue to study, rehearse, and perform excellent band literature for woodwind, brass, and percussion. Emphasis is placed on the development of ensemble performance, individual instrumental technique, aural skills and musicianship. The Lane Jazz Ensemble is one of the region's premiere instrumental ensembles. This big band rehearses and performs throughout the academic year and frequently programs historically significant repertoire in addition to new music by some of today’s finest jazz composers. Annually, the Lane Jazz Ensemble has been among the top community/two-year colleges participating at the Reno Jazz Festival, including taking top honors in 2013 in the Community College division. Jazz Combos

The Lane Jazz Combos provide an exciting opportunity for students to collaborate in a traditional small jazz group setting. At the beginning of each term, students will be placed into groups based on their skill level and experience, and will proceed to study improvisation, ensemble performance, and jazz styles through listening, rehearsal, and performance. Students will work with an instructor for approximately one hour per week, with the rest of their rehearsal time being student led. Jazz Combos provide an excellent opportunity for students to work on jazz improvisation in a performance setting, compose and arrange music of their own, and to experience jazz music as part of a chamber ensemble. Vocalists are welcome!
