The Humanities Division oversees three departments: Communication Studies, Language Studies, and Writing and Literature
The Humanities Division consists of Language Studies, Communication Studies, and Writing and Literature Departments. With a wide variety of courses and a large number of different course offerings, you can develop a full range of expressive, interpretive, creative, and communicative skills.
The Social Science Division offers courses about people, their social and cultural heritage, and their behavior. These subjects are important to being successful in any profession or vocation, and they contribute to the quality of our lives.
Most Social Science classes may be applied toward baccalaureate majors in the following programs: Anthropology, Community Service, Criminal Justice, Economics, Education, Ethnic Studies, General Social Science, Geography, History, Human Services, Law, Law Enforcement, Corrections, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, Public Administration, and Sociology.
The division also offers these professional/technical programs: Geographic Information Science, Human Services, and Early Childhood Education, Education Assistant.
Note: Professional/technical courses cannot be used to meet social science general education requirements for Lane or baccalaureate degrees.
Humanities Departments
Communication Studies Department
The Communication Studies Department offers courses that focus on oral communication in a number of contexts, including interpersonal communication, group communication, professional communication, cultural communication, and public speaking.
Language Studies Department
The Language Studies Department offers two years of study in French, Spanish, and Chinuk Wawa (from 101 to 203), satisfying graduation requirements of the Oregon University System. We also offer classes in American Sign Language (ASL).

Writing and Literature Department
The Writing and Literature Department offers courses in composition, creative writing, technical writing, literature, and film as literature. The Academic and Tutoring Center offers in person and online tutoring on papers written for any class at LCC.
