Refund Information When Dropping a Class

Before dropping a class, view the online refund schedule and make sure you know how dropping a class will impact you.

Dropping a Class

Use myLane to drop any classes you do not plan to attend. You are responsible for making any necessary changes to your schedule by the refund deadline. Lane will refund 100% of your tuition if you drop by the deadline. If there is a hold on your myLane account, you will not be able to drop a class in myLane. Instead, go to building 1 and speak with someone in the Enrollment Services to drop that class. For this reason, it is best to drop a class during Enrollment Services hours.

Check your schedule after making any changes and before the refund deadline. It is possible to scroll schedule options with the mouse scroll wheel, changing your schedule unexpectedly.

Key Deadlines

To obtain a refund, YOU must drop your class by 11:59 p.m. on the Monday of the second week of the term. (Exception: for classes less than 4 weeks, drop the class at least three days before the class begins to receive a refund.) Once you have made changes at/before the refund deadline, make sure that the classes you have dropped are no longer on your schedule. Confirm the deadline on the online refund schedule.

Refund Request Form

If you have a documented medical emergency or significant reason why you have to drop a class after the refund deadline, fill out the online Refund Request Form. Your request will be reviewed by the Refund Request Committee, and you will be notified when a decision is made. If you have any further information to add to a request, email the committee at RefundRequest@lanecc.edu.

No Show Drop

You are expected to drop courses you do not attend during the first week. If you do not attend at least one meeting of your class the first week of the term, instructors will drop you using No Show Drop. This is a strict Lane policy. For online courses, if you do not participate at least once during the first week, your instructor will No Show Drop you. If you are dropped, you will have your charges for that class refunded or removed from your billing if you have not yet paid.

Students are still responsible to drop courses they do not plan to attend.

Refund Process for students using Tuition Assistance

Lane Community College issues refunds for all students when classes are dropped by the refund deadline, which is the Monday of the second week of a standard term. Students using Tuition Assistance (TA) will be issued a full refund of 100% if classes are dropped by this same deadline. Lane will return 100% of TA funds for students who drop within the first six weeks of the term. After the end of the sixth week of a standard term, the course is considered 60% complete and TA funds will no longer be returned. If the course drop is not due to a military obligation, the student will be responsible for the tuition not covered by the TA.

Students who stop attending due to a military service obligation will be issued a full refund upon submission of documentation that supports required military leave of more than one week.
