Our Services:

Placement Options - Getting Started at Lane

Lane Community College uses placement tests and other methods to help determine your skill level in reading, writing, and math. Placements can also fulfill prerequisites and demonstrate required skill levels for courses and programs.

Students with prior language experience (Spanish or French) may also complete a foreign language placement to start beyond the 101 level.

Most students will need a Writing and Math Placement!

Writing and Math Placements

Writing Placement

A writing placement is required for most new students seeking a certificate or degree. This includes students taking credit classes for personal enrichment. Placement can be earned through placement testing, other prior testing, or college credit.

Math Placement

A math placement is required to clear pre-requisites for some courses (for example, math or computer science) and for entry to certain programs. Placement can be earned through placement testing, other prior testing, last completed high school course, or college credit.

Some students can benefit from a Language Placement!

Foreign Language Placement

If you have prior language experience in Spanish or French, you may be able to place beyond the entry level courses (SPAN101 or FR101).
