Lane Community College's Aviation UAS Program Director Solomon Singer named Oregon ACTE Postsecondary Professional of the Year

Lane Community College proudly announces that Solomon Singer, Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Program Director, has been honored with the Oregon Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) Postsecondary Professional of the Year Award. This prestigious statewide recognition highlights Singer's exceptional contributions to career and technical education (CTE), showcasing his innovation, dedication, and commitment to student success.

The Oregon ACTE Postsecondary Professional of the Year Award celebrates educators who have demonstrated outstanding teaching practices, innovative approaches in the classroom, and a commitment to advancing CTE within their institutions and communities. Singer's remarkable work at Lane Community College since 2018 has significantly impacted the field of UAS technology education.

With a Bachelor of Science in general science from the University of Oregon and working toward his Masters of Engineering in Systems Engineering from Oregon Institute of Technology, Singer brings a wealth of expertise to his role. His proficiency in electronics, avionics system design, test flight procedures, mission planning, and UAV maintenance and development has enriched the learning experiences of his students.

Singer's teaching philosophy emphasizes a hands-on, industry-relevant approach to education. Under his guidance, students at Lane Community College have the opportunity to build, program, and fly high-quality aircraft as part of their degree studies and keep after they graduate. This practical experience not only enhances their learning but also fosters engagement and accessibility within the high-tech career field of UAS technology.

Furthermore, Singer's initiative extends beyond the classroom. He has worked closely in established partnerships with over 30 industry leaders, including pilots, businesses, and manufacturers, to ensure that the curriculum aligns with current industry needs. By integrating real-world insights and practices into the program, Singer equips his students with the skills and knowledge necessary for success in their future careers.

"I try to take a step back and focus on why we are here. What we are doing is to transform lives through education," said Singer.

The Oregon ACTE Excellence Awards, presented during the organization's annual conference in Portland, recognize individuals, programs, and organizations that have made significant contributions to CTE. Singer's receipt of the Postsecondary Professional of the Year Award underscores Lane Community College's commitment to excellence in education and workforce development.
