LCC welcomes Dr. Paul Jarrell, vice president for academic and student affairs

Dr. Paul Jarrell, VP for Academic and Student AffairsEUGENE, Ore.—Dr. Paul Jarrell has joined Lane Community College as vice president for academic and student affairs. He was selected from six candidates following a national search. He begins his new position this week.

Lane President Dr. Margaret Hamilton said, “Paul has a terrific background for Lane, including achievements in leadership, teaching, curricular design, student success and retention, accreditation, community engagement, and economic and workforce development.”

“I am so happy to be at Lane Community College,” said Jarrell. “I am impressed by the dedication the college has to create a campus environment that fosters learning and student success. I am excited to work with Dr. Hamilton and the rest of the campus community in furthering that goal.”

Jarrell has 25 years experience in community college leadership and teaching. Most recently he was executive vice president for educational programs at Santa Barbara City College where he led instructional and student services programs. Before that, he was academic affairs administrator, dean of science and mathematics, dean of business, engineering, and technology, and dean of instructional support, at Pasadena City College. He also taught biological sciences for many years at Pasadena City College, Cosumnes River College, Longwood College, and Southern Oregon University.

Jarrell has a bachelor’s degree in biology from Ohio University 1987 and a doctorate in biology from the University of Oregon 1992. He was the first in his family to go to college.

“In many ways, it feels like I am coming home,” said Jarrell. “I am a graduate of the U of O and my wife is a graduate of Lane’s nursing program. We spent many years in Eugene starting our family. I am excited to have the opportunity to continue my career with Lane coming full circle back where it all began.” The Jarrells’ two adult children live in Portland.
