EUGENE, Ore. — Lane Community College will host Dr. Tim Cook, president of Clackamas Community College, on Friday, July 18 at 4 p.m. as part of his Run4Students campaign. The statewide effort includes more than 1,500 miles of running to raise awareness and support for Oregon’s community college students.

Cook is visiting all 17 of Oregon’s community colleges over the course of 50 days averaging about 32 miles per day. He will arrive on foot near Eldon Schafer Drive and be joined by Lane Community College President Dr. Stephanie Bulger for a short run to the campus track, where a reception will follow. The public is encouraged to attend, cheer them on and show support for community college students across the state.

Run4Students highlights the urgent basic needs many students face. More than 200,000 students, which is more than half of Oregon’s higher education enrollment, attend community colleges. Many struggle with food insecurity, housing instability, lack of transportation and child care needs. A 2021 report from the Hope Center found that 41 percent of Oregon community college students experience food insecurity, 56 percent face housing insecurity and 19 percent experience homelessness.

Funds raised through the campaign will be distributed directly to each of Oregon’s 17 community colleges to help students meet their basic needs.

The campaign is supported by Rivermark Credit Union, Johnson RV, Daimler Truck North America, The Ford Family Foundation and others.
