EUGENE, Ore. — Lane Community College (LCC) again earned the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for its Fiscal Year 2025 Budget Document. This is the second time since 2018 that LCC has received the award, placing the college among a select group of government organizations recognized for excellence in budgeting.

The award represents a significant achievement for Lane Community College and highlights the dedication of the Board of Education and staff to meeting the highest standards of governmental budgeting. To receive the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, organizations must meet nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation established by the Government Finance Officers Association. These guidelines evaluate how well a budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide, and a communications device. Earning the award indicates that LCC’s budget document substantially met the criteria in each of the fourteen mandatory criteria within those categories to receive this recognition.

LCC’s Budget Team includes:

  • Jonathon Campbell, Director of Budget and Resource Planning
  • Alejandra Collazo Gonzalez, Senior Budget Analyst
  • Kara Flath, Vice President for Finance and Operations
  • Deja Grant, Budget Analyst

“Special thanks to Alejandra and Deja, our incredible budget analysts, and to Cathy Thomas, who helped build the detailed sections on student metrics, department goals, and institutional data, said Campbell. “The budget process is challenging for everyone, and this recognition reflects the collective effort, partnership, and collaboration across the College that make it possible each year”

The annual budget document submitted to the program is evaluated separately by three reviewers. Each reviewer rates a given budget document as does not satisfy, proficient, or outstanding for 25 specific criteria, grouped into six basic categories and four overall categories. The reviewer also provides an overall rating for each of the four basic categories (policy document, financial plan, operations guide and communications document). The award not only brings recognition but also valuable feedback from reviewers, which will be used as a tool for continued improvement.
