MLK celebration to feature performance by Climbing PoeTree, Jan. 16

LCC’s Black Student Union will again host the annual community event

image of Climbing PoeTree press photoEUGENE, Ore. — The Lane Community College Black Student Union will again present the Eugene community celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, Jan. 16, from 5-7 p.m. at the Lane Downtown Campus, 101 W. 10th Ave. in Eugene.

This year’s presentation will be feature a unique keynote performance by Climbing PoeTree with Alixa Garcia and Naima Penniman who work for justice with healing and imagination by using multimedia theater, dual-voice spoken word, visual art, sustainable touring, and community organizing. No tickets are required but seating is limited so arrive early.

Earlier in the day, the Lane County branch of the NAACP will lead the 30th Annual MLK March beginning with a gathering near the at Serbu Youth Center at 9 a.m. followed by the march at 10 a.m. to the Shedd Institute.
