Welcome to the Native American Student Program Coordinator resource office! On this website, you will find information about Native American Student Program services at Lane Community College. This service is reflective of Lane's current Diversity Plan, Vision, Mission, Core Values, and Strategic Plans for the College. The Native American Program supports American Indian/Alaska Native students at Lane Community College. The program's goals are to help students make a smooth transition to college. The program helps students identify available resources, provides follow-up services, and offers a variety of opportunities to learn about Native American culture, values, and traditions.
Available resources include:
- Referral services for academic, personal and career counseling
- Scholarship and financial aid information
- Group interaction through social events
- Sponsorship and support for student organizations on campus for American Indian/Alaska Native students
- Liaison between students and tribal education programs.
The program coordinator serves as an on-campus advocate for the students between admissions, financial aid, Lane faculty, and other departments. In addition, the program provides information on the availability of appropriate scholarships.
The Bridge of the Gods (Native American Rites of Passage) summer program is designed to teach appropriate indigenous principles of cooperative social interaction to Native American high school and middle school students. The Bridge of the Gods program is based in the tradition of honor and respect for all peoples, and students are informed about traditional ways of knowing. The program's purpose is to increase cultural awareness among pre-college age Native youth that will lead to improved academic success and increased self-awareness in the college environment.
