Practicum
Capstone Practicum and Project
The culminating experience of the RN-to-BSN program is a Capstone Practicum and Project, designed to synthesize academic learning with real-world nursing practice. This final course combines a practicum with a scholarly project that addresses a current issue or opportunity in professional nursing practice. The requirement is 120 hours between practicum and project.
Practicum Component
You will complete a structured clinical experience in a healthcare or community setting under the guidance of a qualified preceptor. This experience may be in your place of work. This experience emphasizes leadership, quality improvement, and the application of evidence-based practice within a professional setting. You'll identify a population, system, or process in need of improvement early in the program and gather contextual data throughout the program and during their practicum hours.
Capstone Project
Based on insights gained during the core BSN course work and practicum, you will develop and implement a project that demonstrates your ability to assess needs, review relevant literature, design an intervention, and propose strategies for evaluation and sustainability. Project topics may include areas such as:
Improving patient education or health literacy
Enhancing care coordination or patient safety practices
Implementing quality improvement initiatives
Addressing health disparities or access to care
Promoting evidence-based practices in clinical decision-making
You'll present your final project in both a written report and oral or multimedia presentation, demonstrating critical thinking, professional communication, and readiness to lead change in nursing practice.
