EUGENE, Ore. — Lane Community College will hold its 52nd Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, June 17. For the first time in 32 years, the event will take place on main campus, on Bristow Square facing the Center Building. The event previously was held at the fairgrounds. In addition, English as a Second Language program graduates will participate this year for the first time in many years. Ceremonies will be live-streamed and captioned.

About 500 students are expected to participate in the ceremony. This year, Lane expects to award about 1,750 associate degrees and certificates to approximately 1,155 graduates (some graduates earn more than one degree or certificate).

In a salute to President Mary Spilde, who was born and raised in Scotland and is retiring after 16 years as Lane’s CEO, a five-person bagpipe corps will open the processional at 2 p.m. This will be followed by statements from President Mary Spilde, Board of Education Chair Rosie Pryor, ASLCC Student Body President Robert Kirkpatrick, and Faculty Representative Ahmad Rajabzadeh. The All Oregon Academic Team Award will be presented, followed by student keynote speaker Radiant Gaines. Degrees, diplomas and certificates will be presented and the event will close with a recessional.
