Proof of English Proficiency

Lane Community Colleges welcomes all students regardless of English proficiency. You may take our placement test and study ESL or college credit courses based on your score.

Lane accepts IELTS, TOEFL, SAT or ACT scores for English proficiency. We also accept high school transcripts for AP, IB, SPM, IGSC and from certain countries for English Proficiency.

Official test scores are required for all exams before admission to the credit level is given. Tests must taken within the previous 24 months of your application to Lane.

The measures below are for students who are new to the USA, are in good standing at their last school, and plan to be full-time students. These measures are not applicable for part-time students. Transfer students please review our requirements webpage.

AP, IB, SPM or IGSC Exam

Students who have graduated from high schools that offer all curriculum in English, AP, IB, IGSC or SPM curriculum qualify for Proof of English with their high school transcripts as outlined below for each system.

SPM High School completion Students with SPM curricula (Malaysia) will be able to take Writing 93, College Writing for English Language Learners or Writing 97, Introduction to Essay Writing.
SPM A Students with SPM curricula (Malaysia) with an A grade or higher in English will be able to take Writing 115, Introduction to College Composition.

High School in Specific Countries

Students who have attended national high schools in the countries listed below qualify for Proof of English with their high school transcripts as outlined below for each system.

Public high schools with qualifying national curriculum are in the following countries: Australia, Brunei, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Malaysia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Norway, Singapore, South Africa, Sweden, United Kingdom, USA.
