LCC Wildland Fire Management Students Practice With Donated Tools
Monday, November 9 at 9:30 a.m. at Lane Community College - Main Campus, 4000 E. 30th Ave., Eugene, OR 97405
Thanks to a generous donation from Weyerhauser, students taking Fire 200: Wildland Fuels Management and Prescribed Burning will practice their hands-on fuel management skills with new tools and safety gear. After completing the course, students will be able to describe the role of controlled burning/prescribed fire in maintaining and restoring fire-adapted ecosystems and habitats for fire-dependent species, describe different firing techniques, and gather data on social and environmental factors for planning prescribed fires.
Students practice planning, preparing, and implementing a prescribed fire and demonstrate the use of basic tools and methods for measuring, inventorying, and classifying fuels with quantitative and qualitative analysis.
Graduates of the Wildland Fire Management Certification program qualify for wildland fire and prescribed fire module positions with agencies like the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), U.S. Forest Service, non-profits, and private contractors.
