Dear LCC Colleagues,
Labor Day, observed the first Monday in September, marks the labor movement's fight for fair working conditions dating back to the late 19th century. This fight made it a national holiday in 1894. The first Labor Day parade took place September 5, 1882, when ten thousand workers marched from New York's City Hall to Union Square. That spirit is still worth pausing for today.
I want to take a moment to recognize the classified professionals, faculty, managers, students, and community members whose work sustains this institution. Labor Day belongs to workers everywhere, and it carries significance here at Lane.
Your commitment to good teaching, your care for a genuinely welcoming campus, and your willingness to keep learning and improving are what actually make this college work. Whether you're in a classroom, supporting a student one-on-one, keeping our buildings running, or handling the countless details that hold everything together, you're important to Lane. Your effort matters, and it's noticed.
Labor Day isn't just a day off. It's a reminder that what we build here, we build together, and that every one of you has a hand in it.
