Dear LCC Colleagues,

Today on Veterans Day, we pause to honor and express heartfelt gratitude for the individuals who have served our country. Your courage, service, and the sacrifices of your families are noticed and appreciated.

At Lane Community College (LCC), our commitment to veterans is our daily practice. Through the Maxwell Student Veteran Center (MSVC), named for World War II veteran and longtime Lane instructor Robert Dale Maxwell, we provide a welcoming space and dedicated services to support student veterans and their families. The MSVC offers lounge and computer-lab access, a strong sense of community, and a team ready to assist with transition, academic support, and resource navigation.

A dedicated web page outlines a full suite of supports for student veterans, including:

  • Dedicated benefit-certifying specialists and academic advisors who help veterans navigate their VA education benefits and maximize their military experience for college credit.
  • Priority registration each term to give student veterans early access to courses and help optimize scheduling.
  • Simplified documentation and eligibility steps for VA benefit certification, including the submission of a VA term planner each term.
  • Policies that respect the service of student veterans such as returning to the same program and tuition status  for students who leave for military service.

Whether you are a veteran student, faculty, classified professional, or manager, I encourage us all to remember that the spirit of Veterans Day lives beyond today. Every day we can reflect on how military service and learning converge, and how our institution can continue to honor veterans with words, action, and persistent support.

With profound respect and gratitude,

Stephanie
