Dear LCC Colleagues,

On June 19, we recognize Juneteenth, a day that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and celebrates the resilience, achievements, and enduring contributions of Black Americans. Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 when news of emancipation finally reached enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.

Juneteenth is both a celebration and a time for reflection. It invites us to acknowledge our nation’s history, honor the perseverance of those who fought for freedom and justice, and recognize the work that continues to advance equity and opportunity for all.

At Lane Community College, we are committed to fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment where every member of our community feels valued, respected, and supported. As we observe Juneteenth, we encourage you to take time to learn, reflect, and engage with the history and significance of this important day.

Thank you for helping create a college community that embraces diversity, promotes belonging, and honors the experiences and contributions of all people.

Wishing you a meaningful Juneteenth.

With gratitude,

Stephanie
