Lane Community College’s recruitment and hiring procedures will demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in order to achieve the College’s mission and support students in achieving their educational goals.  Lane Community College’s recruitment and hiring procedures will allow the College to engage in diversity hiring, to the extent permitted by law, that increases the representation of underrepresented communities in the College’s workforce.  Diversity hiring includes a hiring process that mitigates unconscious bias and eliminates irrational barriers to employment to allow Lane Community College to hire the best candidate regardless of the candidate’s protected classes.  Underrepresented communities consist of individuals holding identities broadly underrepresented in the College’s workforce in comparison to their representation in the field or job category within the State or nationally in higher education.

The President shall establish procedures for the recruitment and selection of employees.

Lane Community College’s Affirmative Action Plan will document the broad array of strategies and actions the College uses or will use to ensure equal employment opportunity.  The President will provide the Board of Education with an annual report regarding Lane Community College’s Affirmative Action Plan.

Board Policies are adopted by the Lane Community College Board of Education and establish the College’s governing principles and institutional direction. These policies are reviewed by the Board at least every five years or more often as needed. Board Policies are distinct from College Operating Policies and Procedures (COPPS), which provide operational guidance and are developed through governance processes and by responsible managers.
