Lane Community College is committed to equal opportunity in educational programs, employment, and all access to institutional programs and activities. Lane Community College, and each individual who represents Lane Community College, shall provide access to its services, classes, and programs without regard to the individual’s legally protected status. Legally protected status is defined as: race, color, religion, sex, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender stereotypes, parental status, national origin, perceived shared ancestry or ethnic characteristics, age, limited English proficiency or English learner status, physical or mental disability, record of or regarded as having a disability, genetic information, family relationship, marital status, expunged juvenile record, veteran status or political affiliation or association with any member of these protected groups. The President shall establish administrative procedures that ensure all members of the college community can present complaints regarding alleged violations of this policy and have their complaints heard in accordance with state and federal laws regarding nondiscrimination. With respect employment with Lane Community College, candidates will not be excluded from employment based on limited English proficiency or English learner status, unless the position in question specifically requires English proficiency beyond that demonstrated by the candidate. No Lane Community College funds shall ever be used for membership, or for any participation involving financial payment or contribution on behalf of Lane Community College or any individual employed by or associated with it, to any private organization whose membership practices are discriminatory toward an individual or group with legally protected status, as defined herein.

Board Policies are adopted by the Lane Community College Board of Education and establish the College’s governing principles and institutional direction. These policies are reviewed by the Board at least every five years or more often as needed. Board Policies are distinct from College Operating Policies and Procedures (COPPS), which provide operational guidance and are developed through governance processes and by responsible managers.
