The President shall be responsible to secure insurance for Lane Community College which shall include, but is not limited to, the following liabilities:

  • Liability for damages for death, injury to persons, or damage or loss of property.
  • Personal liability of the members of the Board of Education and the officers and employees of Lane Community College for damages for death, injury to a person, or damage or loss of property caused by the negligent act or omission of the member, officer or employee when acting within the scope of their office or employment. The President may authorize coverage for persons who perform volunteer services for Lane Community College.
  • Worker’s compensation insurance.
  • Real Property insurance.
  • Personal Property insurance, including insurance for the operation of motor vehicles

As permitted by state law, Lane Community College may participate in a joint powers arrangement, or may engage in a course of self-insurance for the purposes described in this policy.

Board Policies are adopted by the Lane Community College Board of Education and establish the College’s governing principles and institutional direction. These policies are reviewed by the Board at least every five years or more often as needed. Board Policies are distinct from College Operating Policies and Procedures (COPPS), which provide operational guidance and are developed through governance processes and by responsible managers.
