The Lane Community College Board of Education shall be composed of seven members, each elected by the qualified voters of the entire Lane Community College District to serve terms of four years.
Five positions on the Board are designated by geographic zones. Candidates for these positions must reside in the specific zone they seek to represent at the time of nomination and throughout their term of office. Two additional positions are elected at-large and may be held by residents of any area within the district.
The zones are defined as follows:
- Zone 1: The western portion of the college district, including the River Road and Santa Clara neighborhoods of Eugene, Veneta, Dunes City, Florence, Mapleton, Westlake, Monroe, Junction City and Harrisburg.
- Zone 2: North and western portions of Eugene, including Ferry Street Bridge, Cal Young, North Gillham, Bethel, and West Eugene north of West 11th Ave.
- Zone 3: The eastern metro portion of the district, including Springfield, Thurston, and the Laurel Hill Valley neighborhood of Eugene.
- Zone 4: The eastern portion of the district, including the McKenzie River Valley, Creswell, Cottage Grove, Lowell, Oakridge, Westfir, Marcola, Coburg, and parts of the Churchill district.
- Zone 5: A zone entirely within Eugene, including portions of the Harlow Neighborhood and areas located south of the Willamette River and east of Chambers St.
- At-Large – Position 6 and Position 7: Represent the entire Lane Community College District.
A person shall be qualified to serve as a member of the Board if they are an elector residing within the Lane Community College District. Candidates for zone-specific positions must also reside in the zone from which they are nominated. Board members must qualify for office by taking an oath of office. No person who is employed by Lane Community College shall be eligible to serve on the Board during their employment with the college.
In accordance with Board Policy 2015, there shall also be a non-voting, ex-officio student member of the Board of Education. This individual shall be the current Lane Community College Student Government Association President or their designee.
