General characteristics:
A Locker and Equipment Room Assistant is responsible for issuing, maintenance, storing and record keeping of all physical education and athletic equipment and for the maintenance of the locker and equipment rooms; may assist with the maintenance of the gymnasium, courts and playing fields; does related work as required. Work requires verbal and organizational skills and accurate record keeping to coordinate the work of student assistants in the locker room maintaining and repairing athletic equipment requires mechanical ability, good visual acuity and eye-hand coordination. Physical strength and agility are required to pick up and carry towels, clothing and equipment, to stock shelves and climb ladders. Positions may require the ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.

Examples of Work:
Stocks shelves with clean clothing and towels; assigns athletic and physical education clothing, lockers/baskets, locks and equipment; keeps records of locker/basket number, lock combination and all clothing, towels and equipment issued to each student or staff member; exchanges soiled clothing and towels for clean clothing and towels; makes trips to the laundry to turn in soiled and pick up clean clothing and towels; clears out each locker/basket at the completion of each term; records missing clothing, towels, locks and equipment; requests lock rotation list and rotates locks to a different locker/basket each term.

Repairs, maintains and stores athletic equipment; may recommend that equipment be sent to someone else for further repair; recommends the purchase or replacement of equipment.

Works, as needed, in athletic or special events; may work evenings and weekends.

Compiles a billing list of items not returned by students each term and turns it in to College Finance so that they can bill students.

Compiles a shortage list of items in short supply each term and reports shortages to supervisor.

Assists the supervisor to ensure the smooth operation and running of locker and equipment rooms and surrounding physical education and athletic areas; responsible for the security and maintenance of the areas.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of inventory procedures; ability to stock shelves accurately and to issue and exchange clothing; ability to pick up and carry wet towels and clothing; ability to maintain accurate records; ability to climb ladders; ability to perform arithmetic computations; ability to work effectively with students and staff; ability to keep work area clean, orderly and safe; ability to operate a microcomputer and calculator; ability to repair equipment found in exercise areas; ability to solve problems; knowledge of OSHA regulations as they relate to safety and sanitation measures; ability to coordinate and monitor the work of student assistants; ability to attain a first aid/CPR certificate; ability to work occasional evenings and weekends; ability to work safely.

Supervision:
Reports to and works under the general supervision of the Health and Physical Education/Athletics Division Chair. The Facility Coordinator may assign work to this position. Work is performed independently according to established procedures. Employee is responsible for daily operations with the supervisor available to consult on problems and policy decisions.

This position has responsibility to assign tasks, provide priorities, train and monitor the work of student assistants and volunteers.

Minimum Qualifications:
High school graduation or equivalent is required. experience dealing with the public is required.
Six months of experience dealing with the public is required.

Equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered qualifying.
