General Characteristics:
A Grants Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the College's efforts to obtain grant funding by the identification and development of viable proposals for external funding of programs which address educational priorities and goals; assesses program needs; provides technical assistance to administrators and staff regarding potential funding sources, strategies and preparation of proposals and budgets; establishes networks with representatives from other colleges, school districts and funding sources; facilitates and coordinates the College's grants review process; does related work as required. Work requires a considerable knowledge of planning, program development, curriculum, program evaluation, grant writing and potential funding sources. Excellent communication skills are required to coordinate campus-wide efforts, mediate conflicts and develop effective networks with other agencies. Exceptional skill in research, synthesis of information, writing and editing are needed to develop successful proposals for outside funds.

Examples of Work:
Identifies and develops viable projects, programs and partnerships to meet the stated priorities and goals of the College; assesses educational program needs; leads the work of grant assistants; identifies funding sources and ensures that materials are added to the grants library; arranges for additional temporary grant
writers as needed; develops and monitors spending for grants office operations.

Provides technical assistance by advising staff, administrators and executive cabinet regarding potential funding sources, resource development issues and strategies.

Establishes effective networks with representatives from other colleges, school districts, businesses, industries and funding agencies; schedules, develops and presents workshops; makes presentations to College staff, local, state and federal officials concerning College priorities and resource development strategies; writes necessary correspondence and makes phone contacts.

Coordinates and oversees the development of selected grant proposals; instructs staff and administrators regarding funding guidelines; facilitates program planning; develops evaluation designs and procedures; writes and edits all or portions of proposals for funding; reviews and/or prepares budget narratives and summaries for grant proposals; coordinates College-wide review process for proposals; mediates conflicts between grant development team members; reviews and synthesizes information from many sources which relate to program development.

Knowledge of and skill in long-range and short-range planning, program development, curriculum and program evaluation; knowledge of potential funding sources and skill in grant writing; ability to apply local, state and federal grant guidelines; knowledge of College policies and goals; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; ability to develop effective networks with other schools and agencies; ability to coordinate planning and program development efforts College-wide; skill in facilitating conflict resolution; skill in synthesizing a large amount of information from various sources; skill in writing and editing; skill in time management, solving problems and setting priorities; ability to provide technical assistance and training to others; ability to locate and organize resource materials; ability to identify sources of data and understand statistical information; ability to clearly communicate statistical information in tabular and graphic formats; ability to develop budget recommendations and track expenditures; ability to develop and write successful grant proposals; ability to meet deadlines under pressure; ability to translate College priorities into programs that have a high probability of external funding; ability to motivate staff to pursue grant opportunities; ability to develop effective working relationships with administrators, staff and outside agencies; ability to lead groups to reach creative and practical solutions; ability to operate a microcomputer, word processing software and other office equipment; ability to work safely.

Supervision:
Reports to and works under the general supervision of the Executive Director. The supervisor advises on resource development strategies. This position works independently to achieve funding priorities and has considerable discretion in applying rules and regulations. Performance is reviewed by results obtained and satisfaction of staff who require assistance in grant development.

This position may lead the work of Project Specialists, consultants and hourly employees. Additionally, this position leads the work of staff outside the department who are assigned to a specific grant development project.

Minimum Qualifications:
A bachelors degree with emphasis on curriculum development, program evaluation and quantitative/qualitative research methodologies is required. Three years of experience developing programs, successful grant applications and accurate project budgets is required.

Equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered qualifying.
