Registered Apprenticeship 101 and Apprenticeship Town Hall at LCC, Oct. 24

EUGENE, Ore.— Lane Community College in partnership with the Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries (BOLI) Apprenticeship and Training Division will host Registered Apprenticeship 101 and an Apprenticeship Town Hall on Thursday, October 24. The Apprenticeship 101 event takes place from 6:30-8:00 p.m., and the BOLI Town Hall is from 5-6:15 p.m., both at the Center for Meeting and Learning, Building 19, main campus, 4000 E. 30th Ave., Eugene.

The Apprenticeship 101 event is an opportunity for Lane County employers to learn about registered apprenticeships as a means to fill workforce gaps. The event will explore the apprenticeship system explain participation to potential employers considering apprenticeship. There will be industry guest speakers and a question and answer session.

In conjunction with the Apprenticeship 101 event, BOLI will host a town hall for existing apprenticeship employers to hear from Oregon’s Apprenticeship and Training Division (ATD) about current legislative priorities and the state of registered apprenticeship in Oregon as well as the future vision of apprenticeship.  ATD staff will hold open forums for participants to discuss topics of interest, share ideas about ways to improve the State registered apprenticeship system, and ask questions.

Lane's Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs, Paul Jarrell, will welcome everyone to both sessions. Oregon BOLI Apprenticeship and Training Division Director, Steve Simms, will be speaking at both sessions.

As a partner in the delivery of training and education to regional workers, Lane Community College is committed to expanding its state registered apprenticeship education and training programs.  As part of this effort, Lane applied for and received the Expanding Community College Apprenticeship (ECCA) grant, an initiative led by the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) and grant funds from the U.S. Department of Labor.

The ECCA project will be conducted over three years and will serve 16,000 Registered Apprenticeships nationwide. Lane Community College was competitively selected for the project and is among the 103 participating colleges from over 31 states and territories.
