EUGENE, Ore.– The Student Production Association of Lane Community College is proud to present a story for kids of all ages, “Peter and the Starcatcher,” from April 26 through May 6, on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and on Sundays at 2:00 p.m., in the Ragozzino Performance Hall, building 6, main campus, 4000 E. 30th Avenue in Eugene.
This wildly theatrical adaptation of Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson’s best-selling novels is a Tony-winning play that upends what we think about how Peter Pan became a cultural icon. From marauding pirates and jungle tyrants to unwilling comrades and unlikely heroes, this show explores the depths of greed and despair as well as the bonds of friendship, duty, and love. This production is written to be a unique and family-friendly experience. In fact, the actors were selected because of their ability to act like kids, says Brian Haimbach, LCC head of theater.
The production is directed by Tara Wibrew, associate producer at Oregon Contemporary Theatre and a former SPA president. Her recent directing credits include “Middletown” and “Melancholy Play” at OCT and “Pillowman” at Lane. Her concept is a play-within-a-play presentation all taking place on a huge jungle gym. The cast is made up of current LCC theater majors and other students as well as community members and their kids. SPA’s spring term production is always its biggest show of the year with the highest production values. This is SPA’s annual opportunity to show off all the bells and whistles of the amazing Ragozzino Performance Hall, says Haimbach.
Tickets are free. Donations for a new theatre studies scholarship will be accepted at the door. No reservations are required.
