EUGENE, Ore. — The need for trained childcare professionals continues to be an issue both in Lane County and nationally. To address this need and reduce barriers for those interested in these careers, Lane Community College with staff from Quality Care Connections will offer a free, one-day, fast track training to get qualified individuals into jobs working with children. Those interested in a new career or returning to the field of childcare can register to attend this free training April 22 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Lane Community College.

“The jobs for entry level childcare professionals are plentiful in small home based environments, as well as larger centers,” said Training Coordinator Alexandra Curtis. “Ready to work entry level positions include Certified Center - Aid I, Certified Family - Assistant I, Register Family - Support Substitute, Cook, and/or Support Staff.”

According to Curtis, those seeking out the training and certifications on an individual basis could face months of one day classes and exams, as well as the exam costs and resources to complete the different requirements. With this training that is being offered for the first time this spring and plans to offer it quarterly thereafter, someone can register, attend the full day session and walk out ready for a job.

“They will learn everything needed to leave our training with comprehensive health and safety and hands-on skills required to be job ready for any child care location in our state,” added Curtis.
