Narrative

A lateral transfer is the movement of an employee to a vacant position on a comparable pay level.

Generally, lateral transfers are the result of a competitive hiring process, including either internal or external recruitment (see Hiring Process). Exceptions to the competitive process must be documented and approved in advance according to the standards outlined in Hiring: Internal Advertisement; Hiring: Without Advertisement; Reassignments; and/or Employee Voluntary Transfers. Employees who are transferred through any of these processes will be placed on the salary schedule according to the appropriate salary placement procedure (see Hiring Rates: Classified Positions; Hiring Rates: Management Positions; or Hiring Rates: Faculty Positions).
