Narrative

General

Candles and other open flame devices shall not be used in places of public assemblage as per Oregon Revised Statutes 476. Lane Community College is a public access facility.

Permitted Open Flame/Candle Flame Use

Candles or open flame devices may be used only in stabilized containers, and only in confined spaces associated with food serving or consumption, i.e., Renaissance Room, or Cafeteria.

Candles and open flame devices may not be carried or moved, once lit. Ceremonial uses or other uses not specifically identified above require college and Fire Chief approval in conjunction with Uniform Fire Code compliance.

The Fire Chief may see fit to require a fire officer be on duty for safety assurance should special permit use be granted. The fire officers' wages will include 1/2 hour prior to the event, the entire event duration and one hour following the event. The department holding the event will be required to pay the fire officers' wages.

Electric (no flame) candles are recommended for use as opposed to open flame devices and are preferred by the fire marshal when a candle flame effect is desired.

Scheduling of the special use permits for open flame devices should be routed through Public Safety 541-463-5558.
