Welcome to Phi Theta Kappa

The purpose of Phi Theta Kappa is to recognize and encourage scholarship among associate degree students. To achieve this purpose the organization provides opportunities for the development of leadership and service. Besides becoming involved in chapter, college, and community activities, there are many other benefits to becoming a member.

The chapter at Lane Community College is called Sigma Zeta. For 2006 Sigma Zeta has continued to achieve Platinum Pinnacle and is a five star chapter.

What's new?

  • At the formal induction on May 30, new members were inducted as well as the 2008-09 chapter offers. They are:
    • Jeff Phillips, President
    • Jenny Holcrow, President Elect
    • Sharon Henson, Vice President
    • Mia Cadwell, Vice President
    • Sheala Makinson, Communications Officer

  • Graduation is Saturday, June 14, 2008, and it begins at 4 p.m. Members help distribute programs and direct visitors. Please arrive by 2 p.m. to assist.

  • The last road cleanup was a lot of fun. We cleaned the entire stretch of 30th Avenue from I-5 to Spring Blvd. We had 25 bags of trash. We discovered a vacuum cleaner, lamp, rug, and several snakes.

  • Sigma Zeta hosted the 2008 Regional Awards Conference from May 9-11, 2008. This conference was in conjunction with Sigma Zeta's 40th anniversary. Photos and awards received will be posted soon.

In April our chapter attended the 90th International Phi Theta Kappa Convention in Philadelphia. Sigma Zeta was Awesome!

Lane President, Mary Spilde, and Lane Vice President, Sonya Christian, were there as well. Everyone from Lane was able to be on stage to receive an award.

You can see and hear Dee's campaign speech on YouTube.

We have our sign, and we continue to maintain 30th Avenue.
