Suspensión de Clases por Mal Tiempo – Preguntas Y Respuestas

Weather Closure Information

Questions and Answers

Q. How do we know if the college is closed due to weather?
A. When a decision is made to close the college or delay classes due to severe weather, the college notifies KLCC 89.7 FM and other news media. News stations make announcements as soon as they receive information. Do not call news stations directly; this delays their ability to bring you the latest information. When possible, announcements are posted online and on the main college telephone. Check one or more of the following:

Radio:

  • KLCC FM 89.7
  • KPNW AM 1120
  • KUGN AM 590
  • KMGE FM 94.5
  • KKNU FM 93
  • KNND AM 1400
  • KCST AM 1250

Television:

  • KEZI-TV Channel 9
  • KVAL-TV Channel 13
  • KMTR-TV Channel 16

Q. When will we know that the college is closed?
A. Closures or delays can be announced at any time as conditions change; however, every effort is made to announce morning closures or delays by 6:30 a.m., and evening closures by 3 p.m.
Q. What do delays mean?
A. If the opening of classes is delayed, report to class at the new starting time if at least 50 minutes of class/lab time remains. For example, if opening is delayed to 10 a.m., classes and labs that normally begin at 10 a.m. or are already in session at 10 a.m. would meet, but only if the normal ending time for that class or lab is 10:50 a.m. or later. The remainder of the day would continue on the regular schedule.
Q. Are there transportation alternatives?
A. When 30th Avenue is icy, some people drive in from the east via Franklin, or ride the bus. In general, LTD operates buses to Lane when the college is open; however, drivers may choose alternate routes. An LTD route change does not necessarily indicate a college closure.
Q. If the college is closed, should staff report for work?
A. When the college or a college center is closed, classes and activities at the facility are canceled and staff who work there should not report for work or come to the work site, unless they receive specific instructions otherwise from their supervisor or hear such instructions in the news announcements. If some facilities are closed and others are open, staff who work at the open facilities should report to work as usual.
Q. Will staff get paid?
A. Employees should review the College Online Policy and Procedure System (COPPS) policy titled, "Pay: School Closure," at www.lanecc.edu/cops/closure.htm, for guidelines on compensation.
Q. What if I have other questions?
A. See the college emergency plan online at wwwlanecc.edu/cops/eplan.htm. Employees may refer to the printed Employee Emergency Manual. For a copy of the manual, contact Public Safety at (541)463-5558.
