Equipment and Facilities

  • Wheelchair-accessible:
    • study desks
    • computer workstations including a workstation with an electronic lift [computer #6]
    • video viewing area
    • circulation desk
    • restrooms
  • Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) for enlarging and viewing reading material.
  • BookWise/Reading-Edge, an integrated, stand-alone reading machine for blind and visually impaired individuals.

Software
Three Windows based computers are available with special software and capabilities for individuals who wish assistance.  Not all software is installed on every computer.

Inspiration 7.6 - by Inspiration Software
Inspiration®'s integrated diagramming and outlining views work together to help students comprehend concepts and information.  In the Diagram View, students easily create and use concept maps, webs and other graphic organizers. The result is clearer thinking, more creative projects, better organized writing and improved student performance.  With the simple click of your mouse, you can transform an Inspiration diagram into a traditional hierarchical outline. In the powerful Outline View, students can quickly prioritize and rearrange ideas, helping them create clear, concise essays, reports and more. [computer #6 ]

Jaws 6 - by Freedom Scientific
JAWS for Windows is a powerful accessibility solution that reads information on your screen using synthesized speech. JAWS provides many useful commands that make it easier to use programs, edit documents, and read Web pages. With a refreshable braille display, JAWS can also provide braille output in addition to, or instead of, speech. [computer #24, classroom computer C5 ]

Openbook 7 - by Freedom Scientific
OpenBook allows you to convert printed documents or graphic based text into an electronic text format using accurate optical character recognition and quality speech. OpenBook's many powerful low vision tools allow you to customize how the document appears on your screen, while other features provide portability to MP3 or WAV audio formats. [computer #24]

Wynn Wizard 3.5 - by Freedom Scientific
WYNN is the innovative literacy software tool designed to enhance success for individuals with reading challenges and writing difficulties. WYNN was developed with the help of special educators and individuals with learning difficulties such as dyslexia, dysgraphia and aphasia. By using a bi-modal approach - simultaneous highlighting of the text as it is spoken - WYNN transforms printed text into understandable information that benefits readers of all ages including English Language Learners (ELL), struggling readers and children with ADD (attention deficit disorder) or ADHD (attention deficit hyperactive disorder). ZoomText 8.1 - by Ai Squared
ZoomText Magnifier/ScreenReader gives you all the features of ZoomText Magnifier, plus screen reading that’s powerful and easy too. ZoomText Magnifier/ScreenReader echoes typing, reads information pointed to by the mouse, and speaks program events as they occur. Flexible verbosity settings give you complete control over the amount of information spoken by ZoomText. [computer #24]

Computer Locations

Computer #24 - Located under the stairs near the circulation counter. 

Computer #6 - Conveniently located along the wall just outside the classroom with easy access to the librarian at the reference desk.

Classroom computer C5 - Classroom workstation number C5 located on the left just inside the classroom door.
