Spring Conference 2021
Spring Conference on May 7 focuses on the theme: Redesigning the Student Experience Through Guided Pathways. Registration is necessary to receive the Zoom link to attend any live session throughout the day, except for the Guided Pathways Drop-in.
All Spring Conference events are open to all LCC employees. As a result of negotiated furloughs during summer 2020 for all LCC employees, May 7, 2021, has been designated as a non-working, non-contract day for faculty members.

Morning Session: "Connecting Data, the Student Experience, and Our Work" with Dr. Hana Lahr
Register to join the morning session with our keynote, Dr. Hana Lahr for a discussion on why and how Guided Pathways matters to our work and how it impacts our work to improve student outcomes.
Dr. Hana Lahr is a senior research associate and program lead at the Community College Research Center housed at Columbia University’s Teachers College. Her current research focuses on the implementation of Guided Pathways and the impact on the student experience. In this January 2021 publication, she shared her research that examined the impact of Guided Pathways on adult learners at three Tennessee community colleges. Before joining the CCRC, Lahr worked in student affairs at several community colleges. She earned a Ph.D. in education policy from Teachers College in 2018. Dr. Lahr will follow up on her keynote in a 10:45 a.m. workshop to offer a deeper dive into a few of Lane's Early Momentum Metrics.

- 10:45 to 11:30 a.m. Language, Culture, and Access...OH MY! - "What do I do when..." Whether you are planning an event or preparing for a student appointment, CAR is sharing some of our best practices with accessibility in mind that supports access, equity, and inclusion! Presenters: Melodie Glimpse, CAR ASL Interpreter, Danii Dickason, CAR ASL Interpreting Intern. This session is eligible for Cultural Competency Professional Development. - 10:45 - 11:45 a.m. Lane's Early Momentum Metrics: Predictors of Long-Term Student Success - This session is a deeper dive into a few Early Momentum Metrics (EMMs) for LCC students. Participants will discuss ways to use the predictive powers of EMMs to improve student outcomes. Presenter: Dr. Hana Lahr Register to attend Lane's Early Momentum Metrics.

- 1:00 - 1:30 p.m. Live Q&A/Discussion on Universal Design for Learning in Student Services (As part of this session, you will receive a pre-recorded video to view before May 7 and join the session live for a discussion and Q&A. on UDL.) Looking for ways to reach students of all abilities and build upon a student's executive functioning skills and strategies? This session is designed to help identify multiple means of engagement, representation, and expression through UDL. You will identify ways to incorporate UDL in student appointments, support, and events. This session is eligible for Cultural Competency Professional Development, however, employees must fill out a Credit by Attendance form to receive CCPD credit for the pre-recorded session. - 1:30 - 2:00 p.m. Guided Pathways Drop-In Session - Guided Pathways is an institution-wide change in how we work with students to get them on a path, support them on their path, and ensure they are learning. It's a big process with lots happening. Naturally, you may have questions. Drop in to ask any question about Guided Pathways to members of the Guided Pathways Core Team. Registration is not required. Join the Guided Pathways Drop-in anytime during the session.
- 2:30 - 3 p.m. Coaching for Success - The Career Pathways Department supports students toward their educational and short-term training goals with an assigned "coach" along their side. Our goal is to work closely with students to close opportunity gaps and increase economic mobility in our community by leveraging federal, state, and local resources available to low-income students so they can attend and complete career tech programs. Learn more about the support services and systems that are resulting in student success by using this coaching model. Coaches, advisors, counselors...it takes a village to help students get on their path at LCC and stick to it! - 1:00 - 1:45 p.m. LCC Alumni Association: Guiding Students’ Next Steps - Did you know that we’re creating an LCC Alumni Association? Our goal is to help strengthen our former students’ connection to the college and prepare future alumni for their next steps: whether it’s joining the workforce or transferring to a four-year. Learn about our upcoming student workshops in collaboration with other LCC departments and community partners and how an alumni association can help improve the student experience at Lane. This session features a short presentation about the LCC Alumni Association, time for Q&A, and a facilitated brainstorming session about ways the Alumni Association can help support students in your program through alumni connections. - 1:30 - 2:15 p.m. Software Solutions for Guided Pathways - Learn how Target X and EAB software implementation complement and support Guided Pathways. Our new onboarding Target X and our new retention EAB software will be showcased and open for conversation about how they will improve the student experience from a Guided Pathways framework. Presenters: Tammi Garlock, Director of Title III & Advising; Dawn Whiting, Associate Dean of Student Enrollment/Registrar; and Jennifer Falzerano, Dean of Student Engagement. - 2:15 - 3 p.m. First-Year Experience An integral part of the Guided Pathways framework is a First-Year Experience course with a focus on career exploration and planning. In fall 2021, the college will roll out a one-credit experimental FYE course focused on seven outcomes. This session will describe the process that developed these outcomes and course. The seven outcomes will be presented along with details about the experimental course scheduled for fall 2021. - 1:00 - 2:30 p.m. Identity, Pronouns, and Recognizing Gender as a Spectrum: Creating a Safe Environment for All of Us (Presented by Portillo Consulting) In this session, we will discuss gender, the importance of pronouns, and how to respectfully continue dialog after unintentionally misgendering someone. We will focus on authentic conversations surrounding a spectrum of gender identity as a means to foster respect towards coworkers and students. It is not necessary to understand or to wholly agree, it is necessary to respect others as they identify. Let's explore what that looks like. Closing Session: Student Panel Discussion - Becoming a Student-Ready College
3:00 - 4:00 p.m. - Closing Session: Student Panel - Becoming a Student-Ready College
What's a student-ready college? It's a college that asks how can we be ready to meet a student where they are instead of asking if the student is ready for college. It involves centering the student experience in all we do with a focus on equity. We'll learn how we can become a more student-ready Lane as we listen to the stories of our students. In this facilitated panel discussion, students will share their experiences entering Lane as a new student, how they selected their course of study, and the barriers they experienced and how they overcame them. Facilitated by Guided Pathways Core Team members: Jennifer Frei and Mike Sims. Register now for our closing session.
