  • A second open-format Q & A session from 2:15 to 3pm, also in CML 220

Monday, March 5

Dr. Paul Jarrell

Dr. Paul Jarrell is currently the Executive Vice President of Educational Programs at Santa Barbara City College. Dr. Jarrell has 25 years of experience in higher education, including 22 years of experience in the California Community College system. His experience includes teaching and administrative roles at Pasadena City College, Cosumnes River College, Longwood College, and Southern Oregon University. He has a Ph.D. in biology from the University of Oregon. 

Wednesday, March 7

Dr. Peter Williams

Dr. Peter Williams is currently Dean of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics at Clark College in Vancouver, Washington. Dr. Williams has 28 years of experience in higher education, including 14 years in community colleges. His experience includes teaching and administrative roles at Spokane Community College, Webster University, Gonzaga University, and Whitman College. He holds a Ph.D. in community college leadership from Oregon State University and a master’s degree in environmental science from Washington State University.

Dr. Teresa Rivenes

Dr. Teresa Rivenes is the Dean of Curriculum and Instruction at Rogue Community College. Dr. Rivenes’s work experience includes teaching and administrative roles at Park University on Malmstrom Airforce Base, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, and Great Falls College - Montana State University. She has a Ph.D. in Psychology and a master’s degree in Psychology and Human Services from Capella University, and a master’s degree in social work from Utah State University.

Dr. Michael Reiner

Dr. Michael Reiner currently works as a consultant for the Institutional Effectiveness Partnership Initiative, a collaborative partnership working to enhance the effectiveness of California Community Colleges. His experience includes work in teaching and administrative roles at the Riverside Community College District, City University of New York (CUNY), Miami Dade College, Florida State College at Jacksonville, Edison College, and Santa Fe Community College.

Dr. Sylvia Orr

Dr. Sylvia Orr is currently the Dean of Academic Affairs for Estrella Mountain Community College (a Maricopa Community College). Her experience includes work in teaching and administrative roles at Chandler-Gilbert Community College (a Maricopa Community College), Shoreline Community College, the University of Alaska, and Anchorage Community College. She holds a Ph.D. in education and a master’s degree in microbiology from the University of Washington.

Wednesday, March 14

Dr. Steven Goldsmith

Dr. Steven Goldsmith has over 24 years of experience in education, including extensive teaching experience in both higher ed and high school settings. He has worked in teaching and administrative roles at Mt. Hood Community College, Lincoln College of New England, University of Phoenix, Quinnipac University, Holyoke Community College, Springfield College, Mesa Commmunity College, and the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine. He holds a Ph.D. in plant biology from Arizona State University and a master’s degree in biology from Clark University.

As Lane Community College moves into the next chapter of service to its community, College President Margaret Hamilton invites nominations and applications for the next Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs.

President Hamilton is looking for a Chief Academic Officer who will provide exceptional leadership. The next Vice President of Lane Community College will be an inclusive, innovative, results-oriented and team-building leader who promotes equity, communication, transparency, and student goal attainment. They will have an astute understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing 21st century community college education, financial acumen, and the skills and passion that leads to student persistence, retention and achievement. The Vice President will be an experienced education professional with a demonstrated understanding of higher education instruction and student affairs processes. They will value teaching and workforce training, be student-centered, and embrace being part of the local community. It is anticipated that the next Vice President of Lane Community College will begin duties no later than June 30, 2018.

Lane Community College serves a 4,600 square mile area from the Cascade Mountains to the Pacific Ocean, an area larger than the states of Delaware and Rhode Island combined. With the main campus nestled in the south hills of Eugene, Oregon, a campus in downtown Eugene with student housing and a the county’s Small Business Development Center, and outreach campuses in southern Lane County (Cottage Grove) and on the central coast (Florence), Lane Community College is a central force in the economy both as a partner with local and regional businesses and as an integral part of current and future workforce development.

Lane Community College is a vibrant learning community with an average of 21,000 students enrolled each year; 28% of whom are students of color. The College boasts a robust international enrollment of approximately 600 students from about 40 countries.
