LCC Public Safety offers free workshop on sexual assault prevention, domestic violence awareness, and self defense, Aug. 17

image of practice defense simulationEUGENE, Ore. - Lane Community College Public Safety offers a free, three-part workshop on Sexual Assault Awareness and Response, Dating and Domestic Violence Awareness, and Basic Self-Defense Training, on Thursday, Aug. 17 from 12-5 p.m. in room 106 of the Mary Spilde Center in downtown Eugene, 101 W. 10th Street. Participants can take any one of the sections or attend the entire workshop.

  • Sexual Assault Awareness and Response, 12-1 p.m.
  • Dating And Domestic Violence Awareness, 1-2 p.m.
  • Basic Self-Defense Training, 2-5 p.m.

According to the Sexual Violence Resource Center, one in five women and one in 16 men are sexually assaulted while in college, and eight percent of sexual assaults occur while the victim is at work.

image of simulation, woman kicking attackerLane’s workshop is taught by college Public Safety officers who are thoroughly trained in self defense and personal protection tactics. The workshop is fun, and the skills the participants learn will last a lifetime.
