20 roles to be cast for production blending contemporary music, rock ‘n’ roll and cannibalism

EUGENE, Ore. – Student Production Association of Lane Community College will hold auditions for its production of “The Oresteia Project” directed by Brian Haimbach in the Ragozzino Performance Hall on Lane’s main campus on Tuesday, March 7, from 5-8 p.m.

SPA is looking for actors and singers for an original musical production based on the trilogy of ancient Greek tragedies by Aeschylus. This show will have it all: contemporary music, rock ‘n’ roll production values, and cannibalism. This show will be a combination rock concert, Broadway musical, and Greek tragedy.

The show is more of a response than an adaptation of the story that depicts Agamemnon’s return from the Trojan war and all the vengeance that ensues (as only a Greek tragedy can do revenge). Eventually Athena has to come down from Mount Olympus to settle things by creating jurisprudence. Considering today’s political climate, this show is an excellent vehicle to investigate the abuse of power.

Auditions are open to students and community members. Singers are needed, but there are many parts for non-singing actors too. Actors may arrive between 5:00–8:00 p.m., but showing up at 5:00 p.m. is encouraged; no need to sign up for an audition time. To schedule an alternate audition time, contact Brian Haimbach (below). Singers should prepare to sing a few bars from a song a capella; no need to prepare otherwise, actors will read from the script.

Up to 20 roles are available for actors of every age, race, gender, and level of experience. Rehearsals will begin in late March and performances are April 27 to May 7. Rehearsals will be scheduled based on actor availability.
