EUGENE, Ore.— Actress and activist Holly Robinson-Peete will be the keynote speaker at this year's Martin Luther King Jr. Day community celebration on Monday, Jan. 19 at Lane Community College. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Center for Meeting and Learning, Building 19, LCC main campus, 4000 E. 30th Avenue in Eugene.
Robinson-Peete is best known for her roles as Judy Hoffs on "21 Jump Street," Vanessa Russell on "Hangin' with Mr. Cooper," and as Dr. Malena Ellis on "For Your Love." She wrote the children's book, "My Brother Charlie," which won the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Literary Work" in 2011. A graduate of Sarah Lawrence College, Robinson-Peete speaks four languages.
Lane students organized the community's first celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. in 1987 and have co-sponsored the event ever since. This year's sponsors are Lane Community College, LCC Black Student Union, Associated Students of Lane Community College, LCC Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlán, LCC Asian Pacific Islander Student Union, and LCC Gender and Sexuality Alliance.
