EUGENE, Ore.– The Lane Community College Dance program is excited to present the work of Lane Dance faculty, alumni, and local guest artists in Collaborations 2019, March 7-9 at 7:30 p.m. in the Ragozzino Performance Hall, LCC main campus, 4000 E. 30th Ave., Eugene.
Emerging choreographers and Lane alumni Denae Brocksmith and Charlie Stellar return to Lane as professionals to present their work. Brocksmith’s quintet “One and the Same,” set to music by Thom Yorke, is a comment on the culture of womanhood in our society. Stellar’s presents her beautiful short film “Dive” which has been shown at a handful of screendance festivals in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Eugene Ballet Youth will perform choreography by Sarah Ebert. Inspired by “Balkan flavored funk,” these contemporary dancers collapse, wobble, slide, and snap their way through choreography that feels like a long sprint.
The ZAPP Dance Company brings hard-hitting energy to the stage with its unique style. Using some of your favorite hip hop hits and elements of street jazz, African and hip hop, they tell a story of confidence and swag.
Lane dance instructor Sarah Nemecek collaborates with DanceAbility’s Jana Meszaros and Lane music faculty Matt Svoboda to tell the story of Portland poet Hazel Hall through music, metaphor and movement.
Finally, Lane dance instructor Bonnie Simoa premieres “Chrism” and “Crumbs” danced by the Lane Dance company. The first is a love duet danced by Omar Ramirez and Anabel Tucker. The second is a zany, puzzling romp through memories of familial gatherings.
Tickets are available at the door by donation, and all students are admitted free.
