Audition for "The Birthday Party"

EUGENE, Ore.—Student Production Association of Lane Community College will hold auditions for its production of “The Birthday Party” directed by Cullen Vance in The Blue Door Theater on Lane’s main campus on Wednesday and Thursday, September 27 and 28, from 5-7 p.m.

SPA is looking for actors this “comedy of menace” by Harold Pinter. Contemporary writers such as David Lynch and Quentin Tarantino owe a debt to Pinter’s use of language and silences. This classic of dramatic literature offers actors and audience members an opportunity to investigate power dynamics in light of past and current politics. Strangers show up at a birthday party and the results are surprising in this “horror-comedy.”

Auditions are open to students and community members. Actors may arrive between 5-7 p.m., but showing up at 5 p.m. is encouraged; no need to sign up for an audition time. To schedule an alternate audition time, contact Brian Haimbach (below). There is no need to prepare a monologue, actors will read from the script.

Up to five roles are available for actors of every age, race, gender, and level of experience. Rehearsals will begin October 2 and will be scheduled based on actor availability.
