General Characteristics:
A Marketing Specialist is responsible within College public relations guidelines and procedures, for providing a specific department or program of the College with a unified promotions and marketing effort; plans and implements all aspects of marketing Performing Arts productions; plans and implements all marketing efforts and promotional events for the KLCC radio station; plans and implements all marketing efforts for the high school relations program; does related work as required. Work requires knowledge of advertising campaign development and publicity procedures, as well as excellent communication skills, to promote particular College programs with the local media business community, high school students, counselors and the public.

Examples of Work:
Develops marketing strategies for selling-season and individual performing arts events tickets; buys media time and space; pre- pares press packages for each event; secures information for press releases from staff and performs additional research and investigation to create interesting copy; works with designers, graphic artists,, illustrators, photographers, film makers, copy writers, voice-over talent, typesetters and printers to produce advertising material' including posters, brochures, videos, slide-tape presentations and radio spots; makes decisions on editing and production of media presentations; consults with College public relations/ marketing department on issues related to marketing the program.

Maintains day-to-day contacts with media, including updating current media lists; writes, edits and distributes press releases; arranges media coverage for special events; develops and schedules on-air radio, television and print advertising campaigns; identifies what to promote and how to implement advertising campaigns, based on staff input; coordinates, publicizes and implements special events.

Prepares and delivers Performing Arts event tickets to Hult Center and other ticket outlets; picks up monies from ticket sales; balances receipts from outlets and makes bank deposit.

Contacts local businesses to solicit community premiums for on-air fundraising; enters premiums into KLCC's membership software and coordinates mailings; resolves problems related to premium delivery and performance.

Produces designs and coordinates workshops for high school counselors and staff; makes presentations to high school students, parents and community members regarding the College's programs and services; leads campus tours and coordinates the student ambassador program; narrates the LCC slide show.

Writes portions of the annual College Marketing Plan in collaboration with representatives of Institutional Advancement.

Prepares expense estimates, revenue reports and budget recommendations for marketing of events or program; sets up marketing budgets for each event; prepares purchase orders and develops bid specifications for media productions and services.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of marketing methods and procedures; knowledge of advertising campaign development and implementation, media buying, deadline requirements and publicity procedures; knowledge of public radio systems and procedures; knowledge of fundraising; knowledge of College recruiting and marketing efforts; knowledge of and skill in writing and producing news releases, posters, radio and TV advertising copy, brochures and other materials; knowledge of graphic arts procedures and techniques; knowledge of and skill in disseminating information via print media, radio, television, personal appearances or other means; skill in planning and organizing projects with specific deadlines; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, representatives of the media, and production firms used in the information preparation process; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to communicate effectively with individuals from a variety of ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds; ability to work independently; ability to coordinate production of advertising material; ability to visualize graphic images appropriate for publications; ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines; ability to drive; ability to use word processing and desktop publishing software to compose or edit material for publication; ability to operate office and sales equipment such as microcomputer, typewriter, copier, calculator, adding machine, fax, cash register and printer; ability to work safely.

Supervision:
Reports to and works under the general supervision of a department chair. Day-to-day direction is provided for one of the positions by the KLCC Development Coordinator who is available to answer questions and troubleshoot problems. Work is performed independently based on previous experience and training in the field and according to College and departmental policies or stated objectives of the supervisor. Work is reviewed by the supervisor through periodic meetings and review of results obtained.

This position may have responsibility to assign tasks, provide priorities, train and monitor the work of student assistants and volunteers.

Minimum Qualifications:
Two years of post-secondary education with substantial course work in business, marketing, advertising, graphic design, performing arts, journalism or a related field is required. One year of related experience in marketing, advertising, graphic design or fundraising is required. A current Oregon driver's license is required.

Equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered qualifying.
