General Characteristics:
A KLCC Program Coordinator is responsible for developing, producing and evaluating all on-air programming of the College's radio station; prepares for and conducts on-air programs; may act for the station manager in his/her absence within defined scope; does related work as required. Operating on-air broadcast equipment requires manual dexterity. Light lifting is required to move stacks of CDs or tapes. Working conditions may include working in a cramped area. Work requires excellent communication skills to make contact with a variety of off-campus leaders, community organizations, national networks, program suppliers, producers, musicians, artists, volunteers and listeners.

Examples of Work:
Recruits, trains and schedules all staff responsible for on-air programming by using and developing systems and policies for on-air performance and programming standards.

Evaluates all present programming in light of its quality of presentation and service to the public's interests and needs; plans new programs based upon Arbitron audience data, local community data and other analysis; proposes and implements new or revised programming to best serve the audience's needs and interests; plans and implements overall Station programming policy by analyzing audience data, station mission and fundraising potential.

Provides day-to-day coordination of station operations; coordinates use of programs purchased or donated; ensures that all daily programming, promotions and underwriting obligations are met and future program needs are filled.

Monitors compliance of on-air announcements with underwriting contracts, FCC rules and other legal requirements.

Supervises and produces on-air promotions, ticket giveaways and special events.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of and skill in music, news and public affairs programming; knowledge of and skill in program evaluation and development; knowledge of and skill in applying FCC rules and regulations and other legal requirements such as libel and slander laws; knowledge of computer systems for public radio; knowledge of and skill in applying on-air broadcast techniques; knowledge of and skill in the operation of on-air equipment skill in speaking in a clear well modulated voice; skill in the operation of a microcomputer; ability to plan, schedule, assign and evaluate the work of hosts, students and volunteers; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to analyze information and to prepare reports or broadcast script; ability to do long-range planning and policy development; ability to perform light lifting and or in a cramped area, ability to work occasional varied shifts and/or weekends; ability to work safely.

Supervision:
Reports to and works under the general supervision of the KLCC-FM Station Manager. Broadcasting work is performed independently in conformance with FCC regulations and the policies and procedures of the Station. Work involving development or improvement of programming is reviewed and discussed with the station manager. Performance is reviewed for the quality of on-air programming and the development and improvement of programming.

This position coordinates and leads the work of Lead KLCC Program Hosts, office manager, student assistants and volunteers. This position plans and assigns-work, establishes work priorities and is available to answer questions or troubleshoot problems on a daily basis. This position has substantial input into hiring decisions and performance evaluations.

Minimum Qualifications:
Two years of post-secondary education with course work or training in communications, broadcast journalism, program development, station operations, FCC rules and regulations or a related area is required. Three years of experience in public radio programming is required. A current FCC Restricted Radiotelephone Operator Permit is required.

Equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered qualifying.
