Purpose of Classification:
Responsible for keeping the Physical Education, Health and Athletic facilities operational, the department clothing exchange running, gyms and fields ready, and equipment in proper working order. Procures materials, services and facilities necessary for Physical Education instruction. Ensures compliance with federal and state regulations to provide a safe operation. Leads the work of the Locker Room Assistant(s), hourly employees and student assistants.

Essential Functions:
Determines specifications of needed materials in consultation with faculty and staff; recommends equipment and materials for purchase; prepares purchase orders for instructional materials, supplies and equipment; obtains bids and quotes in accordance with purchasing guidelines; establishes independent contract agreements; maintains accounting system for expenditures and revenue accounts; administers VISA accounts for purchases; oversees inventory, issuing and billing for lost materials, equipment and clothing; resolves disputes for discrepancies in bills to students.

Supervises the safe use, storage and disposal of equipment and materials per OSHA guidelines and regulations; supervises the cleaning and maintenance of instructional equipment and facilities; monitors the condition and status of equipment; assesses maintenance needs for equipment and facilities; designs and implements maintenance schedules for rooms and equipment; prepares work orders and purchase orders for the maintenance and repair of equipment and facilities; supervises the maintenance of instructional items and facilities.

Coordinates the inventory of equipment; maintains inventory of replacement parts; collaborates with faculty and staff to determine areas of need; provides technical assistance on the use of equipment and materials.

Assigns and directs the work of Locker Room Assistant(s), hourly employees, and student assistant(s); assigns special tasks to Locker Room Assistant(s) as required by department needs.

Responsible for the maintenance, storage and issuance of physical education and athletic uniforms for all men's and women's activity classes and athletic teams; works with coaches and instructors to keep an accurate accounting of all uniforms and equipment.

Facilitates and coordinates the use of equipment and facilities for department activities and special events. Initiates work orders for necessary equipment set up requirements and ensures that teaching stations or activity areas are operational and safe.

Minimum Qualifications:
An associate degree in fitness education, physical education, health, or related field is required. Three (3) years of related experience is required. This experience includes operating and maintaining equipment and materials in a fitness facility or similar setting and general office work with responsibility for computerized budget tracking and purchasing. A current Oregon driver's license is required. A current First Aid and CPR certificate is required.

Equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered qualifying.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of and skill in: the safe use, storage and disposal of equipment and materials; long-range and short-range planning; and the operation of computer to keep accurate records and control inventory;

Knowledge of: Physical Education instruction, OSHA regulations as they relate to safety and sanitation measures.

Skill in: training and monitoring the performance of staff and student assistants; managing time, staff and resources for efficient operation; problem solving, advocacy, conflict resolution, and negotiation of acceptable solutions; and fitness equipment maintenance and repair.

Ability to: read, understand and interpret federal and state regulations related to health and safety standards; use personal protective equipment; understand the use of precision fitness equipment; provide positive and constructive feedback; communicate effectively and respectfully, and work productively with students and staff from diverse backgrounds; work in a participative environment; collaborate with team members to resolves issues and develop new ideas; effectively train, direct and motivate assigned staff and student assistants; exercise judgment to solve operational problems; exercise originality to develop methods or procedures to resolve recurring or unusual problems; coordinate activities by planning work assignments, organizing tasks, and setting priorities; monitor budget status and follow purchasing procedures; prepare budget recommendation justifications and track expenditures; meet deadlines under pressure; maintain confidentiality; obtain a first aid/CPR certificate; obtain forklift and scissorlift certification; transport materials and equipment; repeatedly move about; drive; transport materials and equipment and sit, stand and move about; and work safely in operating equipment and/or performing duties to prevent injury to self and others.

Physical Demands:
While performing the essential functions of these positions, employees in this classification may be required to sit, stand and move about for periods of time. Employees in this classification are required to transport tools and equipment, work on ladders, and work close to the floor. These positions frequently transport materials weighing up to 25 pounds without assistance, occasionally transports materials weighing up to 50 pounds, and on rare occasion transports materials weighing up to 100 pounds or more with assistance. Work requires concentrated mental and visual attention for sustained periods of time.

Working Conditions:
Positions in this classification work indoors and out-of-doors. These positions are exposed to usual office working conditions such as office noises and interruptions, such as printers, telephones, and visitors. In some settings, employees in this classification may be exposed to outdoor elements, temperature variation, and tools and equipment noise. May be exposed to any number of elements but with none continuously present to the extent of being disagreeable.

Positions in this classification work a flexible work schedule which may include evenings and weekends, depending upon department needs.

Tools and Equipment Used:
In performing the essential functions of the position, the following tools and equipment may be used: laptop and desktop computers, various computer hardware and software, copiers, printer, fax machine, telephone; precision fitness equipment; personal protective equipment; power and hand tools; truck and other motorized or electric vehicles; forklift and scissorlift, and other related tools and equipment.

Supervision:
Reports to and works under the general supervision of the Health, Physical Education and Athletics Division Dean. Work is performed independently using previously learned knowledge and skills according to applicable rules and regulations. Work is reviewed by feedback from students and staff or by observation of the quality of assistance provided to students and staff. This position coordinates and leads the work of Locker Room Assistant(s), hourly staff, and student assistants. This position has responsibility to plan work, assign tasks, provide priorities and be available to answer questions or troubleshoot problems on a daily basis.
