Summer '08 Wellness Program Events

Take time to care for your most valuable resource – your health. LIFE events are open to all LCC employees, their spouses/domestic partners and their dependents, along with retirees. For activity classes on campus children must be 16 yrs or older unless otherwise specified and supervised in class by a parent or guardian. To attend an event, sign up with Wendy Simmons at ext. 5551 or simmonsws@lanecc.edu or Dana Reber at ext. 5263 or reberd@lanecc.edu.

SPECIAL EVENTS

5 A DAY FRUIT AND VEGETABLE CHALLENGE
How many can you eat:  fresh strawberries, peaches, blueberries, corn on the cob, cherries, tomatoes, blackberries, peppers, squash, raspberries, etc.?  Take the Challenge today.  Form a team of two to five people, name your team and choose your captain.  Daily you’ll eat your fruit and vegetable servings and record the total.  Weekly team totals will also be reported.  Weekly prizes will be awarded and more importantly you’ll get to enjoy delicious summer fruits/vegetables and the benefits of eating well and feeling good.  The challenge will last 6 weeks from July 6 through August 16. Golf for LIFE
Drive and putt your stress away on the golf course and enjoy the great Oregon outdoors. This is also a wonderful way to engage with your co-workers outside the office.  For more information contact Gloria Vanderhorst at vanderhorstg@lanecc.edu or ext 5604 or Dana Reber at reberd@lanecc.edu or ext 5263.  Please contact Gloria or Dana if you plan to attend.
RiverRidge Golf Complex Friday 6/20, 7/11, 7/25, 8/8 and 8/22.  We are aiming for 8:00 am Tee times.  Times will be confirmed one week prior.

Relay for Life
Unfortunately, cancer has probably touched all of us either through a family member, friend or co-worker.  Lane will participate in this year's American Cancer Society Relay for Life which will be held at the LCC track on July 25 and 26.  We welcome all employees, students, families and friends to join in our efforts.  You can sign up to walk 30 minutes or more or help out with fundraising efforts.  Sign up online at www.esrfl.org, go to Join a Team and type in Lane Community College for the team name. Scandia 4.4 Mile Walk or 10K Run Join the Lane team to do the walk or run.  The team is growing daily.  The 34th annual Scandia Run uses the same flat and fast course through Junction City and the surrounding countryside that has produced pr's for many walkers and runners. Have a Ball on the Ball
Learn new ways to tone your muscles and loosen your hips while improving your core strength and balance.  This large inflatable ball will also be used to perform exercises to increase muscle flexibility and promote cardiovascular health.  Join your coworkers for a fun, low-impact way to improve your health.  Led by Richard Strunk. Stretch, Strengthen and Relax
Join us on your lunch hour for a workout that will both relax and invigorate you. There’s no need to change out of your work clothes for this low intensity workout. We will use mats, thera-bands and medicine balls to increase muscular endurance and flexibility. The end of class will focus on relaxation. All in just 40 minutes! Led by Dana Reber. (Free)
