Lane Dental Hygiene Testing Information for 2010-11
All applicants must take the HOBET Test. This is a timed test. You may take the test only once during this application period.
- Before you sign up for the test, apply online to Lane Community College to become a Lane student. After completing your online admissions, you will receive an email with your Lane ID number (L#). Once you have received your L#, you will be able to register online for the test.
- The testing session costs $25. You will pay your test fee in the testing office online. You can pay online with a credit card or debit card when you sit down at the computer to take the Hobet test. If you do not want to use your own credit card, please pick up a pre-paid card to pay for the test. The test fee is non-refundable. Schedule early as there are only 8 testing sessions this academic year and a total of 30 appointment slots for each session.
- Photo ID: Lane cannot let you test if you do not bring a valid photo ID.
- Testing is done by appointment only. The Testing Department is located in Building 1, Room 116. Phone (541) 453-5324. You may schedule an appointment after you have completed your admissions and received your L#. No later testing options will be available.
Group Sessions: Register early, as seating is extremely limited. YOU MUST REGISTER FOR THE GROUP SESSIONS IN ADVANCE. Register online for a group test session. Everyone in the room will be taking the test at the same time; there will be no other testing programs in the room; starting time will be enforced to eliminate people entering the room and disrupting the session. You will not be allowed to start the test if you arrive late. You must arrive 10 minutes early.
Group sessions will be held:
9:00 AM on Thursdays & Fridays, Feb. 12th and Feb. 25th, Mar. 11th, 19th and 26th, Wednesday, April 7th, Friday, April 16th and Monday, Apr. 26, 2010 with a limit of 30 students per session.
- After testing your scores will be entered into ExpressLane by the testing office staff. The Health Professions office will retrieve them from there.
Note: The HOBET test is now an online version. You will however be required to take your test at Lane Community College only. You will not be able to use last year’s scores and will need to test again for this year’s application process. Preparing for the tests: Youmay purchase the "Study Guide for the NET; the HOBET; and the HELP Entrance tests" at the Lane Bookstore. It is published by Educational Resources, Incorporated.
Basic information about the Health Occupations Basic Entrance Exam (HOBET):
- The HOBET Test is a computerized multiple-choice timed exam covering 7 sections. You will have 2 hour and 38 minutes to complete the exam. You will have 30 minutes to complete 30 math problems and 30 minutes to complete 33 reading comprehension questions.
- The reading content is based on Health Science related material.
- Although the study guide covers information about grammar – you will not be tested on this information.
- Math questions cover similar types of content covered in the following Lane courses: Mth010A Whole Numbers, Fractions, Decimals; MTH 020 Math Renewal; and MTH 052 Math for Introductory Physical Science.
- Additional sections of the test will focus on the following: Reading Rate, Stressful Situations, Learning Styles, and Test Taking Skills.
