Lane Dental Hygiene Testing Information for 2008-09
All applicants must take the HOBET Test. This is a timed test. You may take the test only once during this application period.
- Before you sign up for the test, apply online to Lane Community College to become a Lane student. After completing your online admissions, you will receive an email with your Lane ID number (L#). Once you have received your L#, you will be able to register online for the test.
- The testing session costs $25. All payments must be made at least one day
before your test session or you will not be able to test. The test fee is non-reundable. Your Lane account will be billed when you register for the exam online using ExpressLane. Current Lane students may register to have the testing fee billed to their account. Students who have not taken credit courses at Lane may go to Enrollment Services at least the day before the scheduled appointment and pay in person for the test.
- Photo ID: Lane cannot let you test if you do not bring a valid photo ID.
- Testing is done by appointment only. The Testing Department is located in Building 1, Room 116. Phone (541) 453-5324. You may schedule an appointment after you have completed your admisisons and received your L#. No later testing options will be available.
Group Sessions: Register early, as seating is extremely limited. YOU MUST REGISTER FOR THE GROUP SESSIONS IN ADVANCE. Register online for a group test session. Everyone in the room will be taking the test at the same time; there will be no other testing programs in the room; starting time will be enforced to eliminate people entering the room and disrupting the session. You will not be allowed to start the test if you arrive late. You must arrive 10 minutes early.
Group sessions will be held:
9:00 AM on Tuesday, Jan. 22, Feb. 19, Mar. 12, Apr. 9, 2009 with a limit of 30 students per session.
- Please submit your scores to the Family and Health Careers Admission office. You can copy your originals or retrieve them from ExpressLane.
HOBET TEST SCORES from Winter Term 2008 or later may be used for your Fall 2009 application. You must inform the Lane Testing Ofice of the date and score you wish to have submitted for you.
Preparing for the tests: Information about these tests and options for study can be found at Lane's website. You may purchase the "Study Guide for the NET; the HOBET; and the HELP Entrance tests" at the Lane Bookstore. It is published by Educational Resources, Incorporated.
Basic information about the Health Occupations Basic Entrance Exam (HOBET):
- The HOBET Test is a computerized multiple-choice timed exam covering 6 sections. You will have 1 hour and 53 minutes to complete the exam. You will have 30 minutes to complete 30 math problems and 30 minutes to complete 33 reading comprehension questions.
- The reading content is based on Health Science related material.
- Although the study guide covers information about grammar – you will not be tested on this information.
- Math questions cover similar types of content covered in the following Lane courses: Mth010A Whole Numbers, Fractions, Decimals; MTH 020 Math Renewal; and MTH 052 Math for Introductory Physical Science.
- Additional sections of the test will focus on the following: Reading Rate, Stressful Situations, Learning Styles, and Test Taking Skills.
