(Most Frequently Asked Questions)

Reminder:

Your mailbox can only hold 35 new and archived messages.Messages can only be archived for 14 days, (then you must listen to them and delete them before you can go on to new messages).Requests for new voicemail boxes must be e-mailed to Virginia Brady by your dept office. (We do not take requests over the telephone).
1. My phone just rings and rings and voicemail does not pick up:
You have lost call forward no answer on your phone. Pick up the handset and dial *3 (hear beep, beep, beep) dial 3535 over the beeps.

2. Voicemail does not pick up when I am on the phone (the caller just gets a busy signal:
You have lost call forward when busy on your phone. Pick up handset and dial *1 (hear beep, beep, beep) dial 3535 over the beeps.

3. I have an old message that the system will not let me skip:
This means the message is 14 days or older and the system only allows you to listen to it and delete it. If you have a message that needs to be saved longer, you must purchase a micro-cassette tape from the LCC Bookstore or an office supply store. Then you can request the use of a recorder to record the message on tape from the Telecommunications Office at ext. 5565.

4. I am trying to get into my mailbox and it says my password does not work:
If you are on a shared extension, dial 3535. When prompted "password please" press *, enter your mailbox number, (not your extension number, mailbox number will start with a 7), then enter your password. If you are still having trouble, your dept office must call the Telecommunications Office at ext. 5565 and request a new temporary password.

If you are the only one on your extension (private extension)and your mailbox number is the same as your extension number, your dept office must call the Telecommunications Office at ext. 5565 and request a new temporary password.

5. How do I fast-forward through a message I don't want to listen to:
You can press # to skip to the next message. (If the message has been there over 14 days, you will not be allowed to skip it).

6. I want to skip someone's greeting and leave a message right away:
When you start to hear their greeting, press the # key and start leaving your message right after the beep. (If they have recorded an extended absence greeting you will not be able to skip through it).

7. How do I get rid of a message that goes on and on and I don't hear the end:
You can keep pressing 3 and it will eventually get you to the end or you can press 33 (once real fast) and you will be prompted with "end of message", press 7 to erase.

8. I am going on vacation and don't want any messages left in my mailbox while I am gone.
Go into your mailbox and create a greeting in the extended absence greeting section. Then call the Telecommunications Office at ext. 5565 at least 1 week in advance so the class of service on your mailbox can be changed to block incoming messages. Make sure that your greeting includes an option for them to call someone else.

9. My telephone is in a shared office, the call is for someone else on this number, I want to transfer the call to their voicemail:
With the caller on the line, press transfer or flash, dial 7000, wait for Marsha to say "Welcome to Octel", then enter your 4-digit telephone number and hang up right away. The caller will get the callers menu on that extension and be able to leave a message for the correct person.

10. I erased a message, can I get it back:
No, once it is erased, there is no retrieving it.
