Student Media
Denali is an award-winning literary arts magazine presently being published three times a year.
All genres of student writing, as well as photography and graphic arts, are accepted for evaluation. Tutorial assistance is available for help with any necessary revision before possible publication. Through cooperative education, students are employed to assisting the elements of editing and production which are necessary to prepare camera-ready copy for the printer.
Denali operates under guidelines of the Media Commission and is sponsored by the English, Foreign Language and Speech Department. The publication is distributed, free of charge, to Lane Community College students and staff as an insert to the student newspaper, the Torch.
Students wishing to submit copy or become involved in any aspect of publication may contact the editor, Room 479D, fourth floor,Center Building, or Peter Jensen, English, Foreign Language and Speech Department.
The Torch is an award-winning, student-produced, weekly campus newspaper with an average circulation of 4,000. Published by authorityof the Lane Community College Board of Education through the Media Commission, it is an autonomous newspaper free from censorship by the college administration, faculty, and student government.
The Torch serves three purposes: it provides news and information of importance and interest to Lane students and staff; servesas a learning laboratory for students of journalism, graphic arts, photography, desktop publishing and advertising; and provides a communication channel for student commentary and debate. All Lane students may submit essays and letters for publication in the Torch.
Video/Audio
Media Arts and Technology students have access to video facilities for both studio and location production. Students use department facilities and a large inventory of production equipment to complete class assignments. The equipment available includes computerized and noncomputerized editing equipment. In completing their classwork, students perform video production job functions such as camera operator, lighting technician, audio assistant, writer, producer, and director. Some productions prepared by students in this program are disseminated to the public through the local cable television system. Advanced students may be chosen to work on projects for the college Media Center.
KLCC, a public radio service of Lane Community College provides innovative, diverse, quality programming which strives to reflect and serve the needs of the community.
KLCC-FM is an 81,000 watt public broadcasting station located on the second floor of the Forum Building. The station is operated by a professional staff and volunteers from the community. It is partially funded by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and is affiliated with National Public Radio, broadcasting at least 20 hours each day of the year.
While the primary function of the station is to serve community needs, it also provides learning opportunities for qualified students. Students who work at KLCC-FM can receive credits toward graduation through the cooperative education program.
