Action steps resulting from Web Site Steering Committee Evaluation Session (begun mid-October)
1. Formulate our charter.
2. File a committee form describing the work of the Web Site Steering Committee to the President's office.
3. On a regular basis, devote a meeting to exploring innovative applications of the web.
4. Appoint committee member(s) to TACT.
5. Review notes; be familiar with and follow-up on decisions made.
6. Obtain vp sponsor(s) to support/oversee the work of our committee.
7. Identify legal counsel for regular legal oversight.
8. Assign a committee member as liaison with legal counsel.
9. Compose a white paper outlining the kind of legal issues we're contending with.
Additional Action Steps:
1. Outline staffing and fiscal needs for proper web management.. Introduce these needs into the college budget process through all available channels. Consider needs of the committe as well as the site as a whole.
2. Obtain resources and personnel
3. Clarify need for and duties of personnel; write job descriptions.
4. Compile results of survey of members of the League of Innovation and other institutions.
5. Peruse web daily and communicate with web authors about faulty links and technical or formatting inconsistencies.
6. Coach people through the initial process of getting linked, i.e. provide resources, explain process, help develop first pages, etc.
7. Plan for the future.
Web Site Steering Committee Mission Statement (revised 11/12/96):
(The) committee oversees and coordinates the development of Lane's Web site, its structure, design, policies and procedures. The committee works to promote collaboration and gain support for this important college resource and is committed to the creation of an engaging, useful and user-friendly site.
