Reading Together - Suggest a Book

The Reading Together Steering Committee selects the Reading Together books through a college-wide inclusive selection process. The new book(s) for the coming year are chosen during winter term of the preceding year.

If you would like to suggest a book or books, please review the following criteria, and send your suggestion(s) to Jennifer Cook, cookj@lanecc.edu. Suggestions will be accepted at any time. If you would like, you are welcome to include any information about your book that you feel might be helpful in the selection process.

Be sure to check out the Reading List page for a list of the suggested books.

Criteria for Book Selection

  • Interdisciplinary character
  • Quality of writing
  • General Appeal
  • Accessibility
  • Relevance to one or more of Lane’s CORE values:
  • Learning, Diversity, Innovation, Collaboration and Partnership, Integrity, Accessibility, Sustainability
  • Reasonable length
  • Author availability
  • Relevance to Lane students
  • Service/Community activity potential

Please note that it is particularly important that the book be of a length that reasonably allows it to be incorporated into existing classes.  A book that lends itself to being used in parts will also meet this criteria.
