At the conference Sigma Zeta won these awards: * Most Distinguished Chapter (third year in a row) * Scholarship Hallmark * Leadership Hallmark * Distinguished Service Program * Five Star Chapter * Most Distinguished Chapter President (Jeff Phillips) * Distinguished Chapter Officer (Sharon Henson) * Outstanding Advisor Award (Velda Arnaud) * Art Award (Valerie Anne) * Literary Award (Liz Pratt) * Newsletter Award * Web Site Award * Scrapbook Award * Travel Award * Participation Award In addition, these Sigma Zeta members were elected as regional officers: * Sabina Ali-Tishmack, Regional Vice President * Liz Pratt, Southern Vice President * Suzi Garcia, Communications Officer Velda is now the Regional Coordinator for the Rocky Mountain/Cascade region. 91st International Convention On Wednesday before the convention, the International Officers presented the first International Honors in Action project. A video about the project can be seen at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C95tDqkp510 The convention featured wonderful educational forums and Robert Kennedy, Jr. and Fareed Zakaria as guest speakers. Sigma Zeta returned with these honors: * Distinguished Chapter (Top 25; second year in a row) * Scholarship Hallmark (second year in a row) * Distinguished Chapter President (Jeff Phillips; our first international chapter member award in a long time) * Paragon Award for New Advisors (Velda Arnaud; fourth year in a row) Spring Wellness Fair As we continued our research on the Paradox of Wellness, the committees learned many new things. Their research will be presented at the Spring Wellness Fair on Tuesday, May 12, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.. Local organizations will also be available to share their knowledge and services with Lane students. 30th Avenue Cleanup The next road cleanup will be Saturday, May 16. As usual, we will meet at 9 a.m. in Lot N. After the cleanup we will meet in Building 2 for a potluck (an optional activity). In case you did not know, 30th Avenue is a main route for south Eugene residents to the dump. We find many interesting items along the highway. Learn College Fish College Fish was created by Phi Theta Kappa to help bridge the transition from community colleges to four-year colleges. It will help students find four-year colleges and scholarships that match students’ needs. We will conduct an Introduction to College Fish workshop on Monday, May 18, at 4 p.m. in Building 2, Room 202. Formal Induction The formal spring induction will be at 4 p.m. on Monday, June 1 in the Board room. It is a formal induction as this is when our chapter installs new officers for the year. Any member who has not been inducted may participate. Family and friends are encouraged to attend. Our chapter colors are red and black, if you want to coordinate your clothing. Scholarship Workshop The Sigma Zeta Alumni Association will present the Scholarship Workshop on Monday, June 8, at 4 p.m. in Building 2, Room 202. Better World Books Our spring campus-wide book collections will be on Friday, June 12. Please check the online calendar for time and location.
