Phi Theta Kappa Sigma Zeta Chapter March 2009 Newsletter 2009-10 Chapter Officer Elections We are currently looking for chapter officers for next academic year. Benefits of being an officer include organizing campus and community projects, learning leadership skills, and making positive improvements within the chapter and the region. Applications are at http://www.lanecc.edu/ptk/Officer%20Application.rtf Applications are due no later than the May 4 chapter meeting, and candidates are encouraged to speak to the general membership. Elections will be held following the candidate presentations. If you have questions, please ask Velda. Regional Conference The regional conference will be hosted by Clackamas CC on May 1-3. At the conference, chapters will be voting on regional officers. This is an excellent opportunity for you. If you will be enrolled at Lane through the academic year, consider running. The leadership trainings and experience with the regional team will be very helpful. Our hope is to have at least two positions held by Lane students. Contact Velda if you are interested in attending the conference or in running for a regional position. SOLV Beach Cleanup We will be cleaning Siltcoos Outlet on Saturday, March 28. Several chapter members will be meeting at noon on Friday to spend the weekend at the coast. Friday afternoon we will have leadership activities. Please come spend the day with us on Saturday. If you are interested in spending the weekend, there are a few spots still available. Let us know as soon as possible. 30th Avenue Cleanup The next road cleanup will be Saturday, May 16. As usual, we will meet at 9 a.m. in Lot N. After the cleanup we will meet in Building 2 for a potluck (an optional activity). In case you did not know, 30th Avenue is a main route for south Eugene residents to the dump. We find many interesting items along the highway. Pictures of some of the items may be seen on our chapter’s Web site at www.lanecc.edu/ptk Spring Wellness Fair As we are continuing our research on the Paradox of Wellness, the committees are learning many things. Our research will be presented at the Spring Wellness Fair on Tuesday, May 12. Local organizations will also be available to share their knowledge and services with Lane students. Formal Induction The formal spring induction will be at 4 p.m. on Monday, June 1 in the Board room. It is a formal induction as this is when our chapter installs new officers for the year. Any member who has not been inducted may participate. Family and friends are encouraged to attend. Better World Books Our spring campus-wide book collections will be on Monday, April 27 and Friday, June 12. If you have any “Reel” Dynamics of Affluence Movie Night Our next movie discussion will be on Monday, April 27, at 4 p.m. Upcoming Events A calendar is listed on the web site (www.lanecc.edu/ptk) Please check there for updated information!
